Following Munford, I went to Michigan State University and earned a BS in chemistry. Later, I earned an MS in biophysics (1967) and a PhD in biophysics (1969).
From 1969 to 1975, I was a research scientist with Union Carbide near New York City. From 1976 to 1989, I was with the Institute of Applied Physiology and Medicine in Seattle. There was also a period (1977 to 1980) that I was a scientist at the Institue of Aerospace Medicine in Bonn, West Germany.
I went to NASA (researcher in the Medical Sciences Division) at the Johnson Space Center [Houston] from 1989 until I retired in December, 2005.
Mary and I now live in Issaquah near Seattle, Wash. Our daughter, her family and three grandchildren live nearby. Wonderful!
